Getting a good night’s sleep each night is important for many different reasons, however, it is surprisingly uncommon in today’s society. It is believed that a third of the population suffers from sleep problems such as insomnia, with more and more people tossing and turning throughout the night rather than sleeping blissfully through. We’re sharing some top tips for a full night’s rest so you can improve your beauty sleep with a few simple changes!

Invest in your bed

Since we spend a 3rd of our life in bed according to experts, it is important to invest in the right bed frame, mattress, pillows and bedding that suits you perfectly. Once you’ve found the basics, dressing your bed is the next important step. If you find that changes in your body temperature tend to disturb your sleep, invest in silk bedding that naturally regulates your body temperature. That way, you won’t wake up through the night feeling too hot or too cold! Silk bedding is also a great choice for those who suffer from eczema, asthma and other allergies and skin irritation due to its natural hypoallergenic properties.

Unwind in the right environment

Preparing your bedroom for sleep is an important step when it comes to a restful night. Simply drifting off is a struggle for many, so ensuring your surroundings are right in the lead-up to bedtime will help. Screen time should be stopped at least half an hour before bedtime, as the blue light emitted from laptops, phones and TV screens delays the release of melatonin, which is needed for the body to sleep. Instead, try lighting candles, especially aromatherapy candles that are designed for relaxation, to get your body and mind in the mood for sleep. Lavender is a great choice when it comes to a sleepy scent to help you drift off. If you do like to have something to do before bed, picking up a book and reading is a great way to unwind and tire out the eyes ready for sleep.

Use a sleep mask

External light can disturb sleep without you realising that is the cause. Using a sleep mask ensures that no light sources can disrupt your sleep or stop you from drifting off, meaning you can fall asleep in ultimate darkness without disturbance. When the brain senses darkness, it produces more of the sleep hormone melatonin. Be kind to your skin and eyes by using a silk eye mask, which gently hydrates the sensitive skin around your eyes as you sleep, meaning you’ll wake up feeling and looking refreshed.

Be at your most comfortable

Changing into the right sleepwear before bed is another essential part of a successful sleep routine. Choose sleepwear appropriate for the season, something that you won’t be too warm or too cold in. Jasmine Silk’s range of silk nightwear is a great choice as it naturally regulates body temperature, much like silk bedding does.

Exercise

We’ve covered everything to do at bedtime, but there is one more thing you can do throughout the day to improve your night’s rest… Exercise! Not only does exercise help you drift off, but studies also show that exercise significantly improves the quality of sleep. This is due to exercise releasing endorphins and reducing cortisol levels – the stress hormone, often known to disrupt sleep. Eliminate stress by doing at least 30 minutes of exercise a day to keep anxiety and stress at bay and help you achieve a great night’s sleep.
