Springtime brings us clear skies, fresh air and a renewed energy that lifts our spirits. Most people use this springtime motivation to give their home a thorough clean and tidy. This spring cleaning tradition means different things for different people. For some it involves a deep cleaning of your home, for others, it means decluttering your cupboards.

To help you decide what’s right for you, Jasmine Silk has put together some spring cleaning tips to give you some inspiration and help you to get your spring clean running smoothly and efficiently.

Organise Your Spring Clean

Whether your home is big or small, everyone can benefit from committing their spring clean to paper. Create a checklist by writing down all the tasks you would like to complete as part of your spring clean. This will help you to manage your time, as well as making sure you don’t miss anything.

You may prefer to organise your spring clean by room, using kitchen, bathroom and bedroom as headings and creating a checklist for each one. Alternatively, you may prefer to simply write down each large task and tick them off as you go along.

Clear Your Wardrobe

As part of your cleaning spree, you may want to add clearing out your wardrobe to your checklist. Whilst decluttering your bedroom might be on your list, you shouldn’t forget about your wardrobe. Some find it useful to move winter clothes out of the wardrobe to give them more space. Not having clothes in your wardrobe that you don’t need at the time, will help you see what you do have, helping you choose what to wear more easily.

Another tip for clearing your wardrobe is that if clothing no longer fits, is damaged or has a stain that can’t be removed, get rid of it. Some like to stick to the rule that if you haven’t worn it in a year, it should also go. How you clear out your wardrobe is up to you, but spring is always a good time to do this, and it also leaves room for new things that’ll breathe new life into your daily attire. New Bedding

Once you’ve given your bedroom a good clean, you might want to add investing in some quality new bedding to your spring cleaning checklist. Spring should be the time when you switch to a springtime duvet, so why not also give your bedroom a revamp with some new bedding?

At Jasmine Silk, we believe that silk bedding is the perfect bedding for springtime because it is temperature regulating and will keep your cool when it’s warm and warm when it’s cool. The fabric also has many other natural benefits which make it perfect for sleeping on, including that it’s hydrating, hypoallergenic and super soft and luxurious, sending you off into a restful night’s sleep. Not only is silk bedding good to sleep in, but it will also look beautiful in your room, helping your spring clean feel like a real success.

Wash Everything

Spring cleaning gives you the opportunity to wash your home furnishings. But, if you’re washing your bed sheets, don’t forget to also wash your pillows and your duvet. When you sleep, you shed thousands of dead skin cells and simply washing your sheets isn’t enough.

Be sure to check the care labels of your bedding before you wash them, to check that you are giving them the appropriate care. For example, our indulgent silk-filled pillows are machine washable at 30 degrees.

Clear Your Cupboards

In addition to any intense cleaning you may complete in your kitchen, you should also make a plan to clean out your cupboards and your fridge. This will help you to feel more organised and give a refreshed and cleaner feel to your kitchen, as we move into the warmer months.

Start by removing anything that is past its date. This is a no-brainer, but be sure to delve all the way to the back of your cupboards to make sure you don’t miss anything. You may also want to remove any old crockery or kitchen equipment that you no longer use. This will give you more space to play with.

Declutter the Rest

In addition to decluttering your wardrobe and your kitchen cupboards, you should also have a plan in place to declutter the rest of your home. Not only will decluttering make your home easier to clean thoroughly, but it is also a good way to get rid of things you don’t need making your home feel tidy and presentable.

Find homes for things that are just lying around and think about donating your old things to charity or recycling them. If there are things that you are undecided about whether or not to keep, put them away in a box somewhere out of reach. In six months time, if you haven’t missed them, its time to say goodbye.

Don’t Forget the Garden

Spring cleaning would not be complete if you didn’t include your garden in your list of tasks. Your garden will need just as much attention as your home, and spring is the perfect time for you to give it it’s TLC. If you’ve let it overgrow a little throughout winter, it’s time to get out your lawn mower and do some maintenance.

Spring is also the right time for you to begin planting if you are a keen gardener, so why not work it into your whole spring cleaning plan? This season will also see the return of many birds to our garden, so you may also want to add or refill your bird feeder.

New Habits

When you’re spring cleaning, you should also think about some new habits which you can adopt in order to keep your home cleaner and tidier for the rest of the year. Examples of new habits could include to:

  • Make your bed every day
  • Delegate cleaning tasks
  • Keep basic cleaning supplies stocked
  • Clean and tidy as you go
